Cardiocrinum Giganteum
Also known as Himalayan lily. It has been known to grow 3.5m tall in a place where it feels at home but generally, in the UK, 2m is its full height. It has beautiful trumpet shaped flowers and a nice vanilla scent. Cardiocrinum giganteum is a perennial that follows a monocarpic life cycle. This means that it typically takes several years (often 4-7) to reach maturity and produce its first flower. After flowering the plant dies back, but produces numerous seeds that can give rise to new plants. Patience is definitely a virtue!
