Colocasia esculenta Waikiki

Colocasia esculenta ‘Waikiki’ is a unique and visually striking plant known for its ornamental foliage. It belongs to the Araceae family and is sometimes referred to as Elephant Ear ‘Waikiki’ due to the shape and size of its leaves.The most distinctive feature of Colocasia ‘Waikiki’ is its variegated foliage. The leaves are large, arrow-shaped, and have a marbled or speckled appearance with shades of green, cream and pinks.. This striking foliage makes it a popular choice among gardeners and plant enthusiasts.

In UK they are best grown in large pots/planters as they are not frost hardy and need protection through the winter more so form the wet. Most Colocasias do not survive the winter due to too wet of conditions.

Care Information

  • Plant when danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed.
  • Best start them off in a greenhouse in pots with heat from below!
  • Can be planted in the ground or in pots or containers. In UK best grown in pots.
  • Plant in well drained soil with the tip of the bulb showing.
  • Need a sunny location.
  • Let the foliage die back naturally, to put the goodness back in the bulb.
  • Colocasia need shelter and dry conditions over winter.
