Caladium ‘Freida Hemple’

This exotic looking example of the Caladium Family grows a clump of deep  red leaves with green edges. As most Caladiums it makes a lovely display during the summer months in the garden and/or inside the house. If and when they flower, the flower is usually hidden by the leaves.

Care Information

  • Plant Caladium in a pot or planter in Spring and keep in warm conditions until chance of frost has passed.
  • Set bulb in moist but well drained soil.
  • The bulbs prefer a consistent temperature of around 18 degrees celsius
  • Plant 5cm/2” deep and 15cm/6” apart.
  • They thrive in shade.
  • Best in pots and containers.
  • In the Autumn allow foliage to die back naturally and bring the planters in.
  • Store pots in a dry, warm frost free location. Caladium do not like frost!
  • Left in pots over Winter, be sure the compost is left completely dry, and repot in fresh compost the following Spring.
  • Caladiums can be grown outdoors, indoors or taken in to prolong their season. They like a high humidity. Regular spraying is a good option.
  • Please note: after planting the tubers can take quite a while (1-2 months) to sprout
