Care Information

  • Alstroemeria can be grown in borders, pots and planters.
  • Can be grown in most soils as long as it is not in soggy, damp conditions.
  • Position it in a sheltered sunny part of the garden.
  • Ideally planted/potted from the middle of march until June but can be planted as late as August.
  • Once planted it usually takes the first season to root in and a couple of seasons for it to flower profusely.
  • Cut down or better pull the flower stems before the winter.
  • Although a hardy perennial it is advisable to mulch over the winter period.
  • Best to pull the stems if you want to use it as a cut flower rather than cutting. This will create space for the plant to expand underground.
  • Divide every 2-3 years for which March and April are good months.
